Almost always, we see Santa Claus in his signature red coat highlighted with a white fur collar and cuffs, red trousers also with white cuffs, black belt and boots in leather, and a red cap with a white fluffy ball at its tip. This image was made popular in the United States and Canada by caricaturist Thomas Nast in the 19th Century. Santa, however, did not always look this way. In earlier times, he was portrayed wearing the robes of a bishop. Today, in one of his incarnations, he has shed his coat and trousers in favor of a surfer's suit. It is still in red and white, but this time it is in horizontal stripes. That is the Santa of the Gemmy Industries 83884 Air Blown Surf's Up Santa and Penguin.
Santa Claus is taking a break. He needs to recharge his batteries. He wants to leave the winter wonderland and just frolic in the sun, sand, and sea, even if only for a while. He looks quite happy with his big round eyes and cheerful smile. He is holding on to a green surfboard and is giving a thumbs-up with his free hand. He looks like he is ready to plunge into the salty sea.
Mrs. Claus isn't with him, though. Instead, he is accompanied by a penguin which looks cute especially with its sunglasses. It is also wearing a cap, as red as Santa's. Although penguins are good swimmers, Santa's friend has an inflatable floater wrapped around its protuberant waist.
Santa Claus, standing at 4 feet, towers over the penguin. Standing side by side, they both have a width of a shade over 4 feet. With the bulging bellies of both Santa and the penguin, they have a depth of approximately 2 feet.
