The set is made of marine-grade polyvinyl chloride or PVC plastic. It is 1/2-inch thick and is laminated. It is designed to withstand harsh weather conditions, whether from the sun, snow, or rain. It also resists delamination and rotting, thus you can keep re-using it for several Christmases.
The bodies of the reindeer are cut in silhouette. Each is attached to pairs of front and hind legs that are spaced apart enough to allow them to stand on their own. The sled is three-dimensional, looking like the real thing. Riding in it is not recommended though. To help keep the reindeer and the sled standing in snowstorms, the set comes with tent stakes.
Assembly is needed but it is simple and straightforward. The adjoining parts have pre-cut sections which you only need to slide together. These fit perfectly with each other thus assuring stability and strength.
The PVC plastic is colored white but, while it does not require painting for protection and actually looks good in plain white, it can be painted should you want to exercise your artistic creativity. You can, for instance, paint the nose of the lead reindeer with bright red turning him into Rudolf, or their bodies with varying shades from white to dark. You can also add ribbons, wreaths, lights, or other décor to the reindeer and the sled to further add color. The only limit to what you can do and add is your own imagination.
